Margaret Ellen Gillis nee Hearn

Margaret passed away at Big Country Hospital in Oyen, AB. the morning of October 7, 2024. She was born June 27, 1936 at Preeceville SK. to Mabel and Walter Hearn, the youngest of their 4 children.

She married Paul Gillis in June of 1954 and they came to Alsask in 1954. In January of 1963 the family moved into Sibbald. Margaret lived in Sibbald for the next 50+ years, where she raised her family. She worked as a janitor at the fairdale school and when called upon would make the most fabulous pies and buns.

More recently, mom went to Benton to live with her son Alec and then in the spring of 2022, went to live at the Long Term Care Center of the Oyen Hospital, where bingo and painting were some of her favourite activities. She produced some amazing paintings.

Mom also loved knitting, gardening, canning, horses and the rodeo. In years past she could often be found with family at the rodeos operating a camcorder where her son's and grandson's were riding.

In the years during the Thanksgiving long weekend mom and dad would be at the F.C.A finals in Red Deer watching their grandsons participate.

Margaret was predeceased by her parents, siblings, 2 brothers (infancy and stillbirth), Fanny, Violet Everett, Delbert and Florence, her son Willard in 1988, and husband Paul in 1993. Also predeceased by Joseph and Mary Gillis (father and mother in law) and a great grandson in 2023.
