Obituary of Eugene Frank Hauck
EUGENE FRANK HAUCK
December 20, 1948 – July 1, 2026
Eugene Frank Hauck was born on December 20, 1948 in Oyen, Alberta to Frank and Bertha Hauck, joining his two eldest siblings. Eugene grew up in Oyen and, with the exception of 1 year, called Oyen home for the entirety of his life.
Eugene met Sharon Hauck (1951-2010), his wife and the mother of his children, while hanging out with mutual friends. Eugene and Sharon were married on January 20, 1968 in Oyen. They were blessed with their first child, Paula Lynne Hauck (Rogerson) in October 1967 and their second child, Gene Hauck, in August 1969.
In 1970, Eugene and Sharon moved to Medicine Hat, moving back to Oyen in 1971. In 1972, Eugene and Sharon purchased their family farm from Eugene’s uncle, Ray Hauck. Over the years, the family farm became the gathering place for family and friends and the hub of holiday celebrations. It also became home to cows, horses, pigs, sheep, chickens, turkeys, dogs and cats, as well as many taxidermy animals. Eugene loved the land and the animals – a love that lives on in his kids and grandkids.
Eugene was a hard worker, a quality that extended to many aspects of his life. He worked on the farm, becoming a jack of all trades, coached baseball and hockey, and maintained a beautiful yard. He also enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, playing cards, homecooked meals, gardening, driving his truck and having coffee with his friends.
Eugene’s love of hunting took him to the mountains, where he and Gene enjoyed hunting trips on horseback. Eugene and Gene spent many hours together working on the farm, with Eugene continuing to lend a hand to Gene with branding right up until this spring.
Eugene enjoyed taking Paula to cattle and horse sales, engaging in daily farm life with her, and teaching her how to keep score at the hockey and baseball games he coached. Later in life, they enjoyed attending concerts together.
In May of 1986, Eugene welcomed his first grandchild, Sheldon. Thereafter, he was blessed with three more grandchildren: Kirsten (1993), Hailey (1997) and Garrett (1999). In August of 2025, Eugene welcomed his first great grandchild, Beckham, who he lovingly referred to as his “little cowboy”. Eugene enjoyed joking with his grandkids and sharing his love of the farm and the outdoors with them. He took pride in teaching the grandkids how to fish, hunting with Sheldon and Garrett, checking/feeding cows with Kirsten, teaching Hailey about horses, working on the farm alongside Garrett and watching Garrett play hockey and dirt bike.
Eugene enjoyed the companionship of Elizabeth Klinger in his later years. They found enjoyment in daily life together, sharing a love of gardening and flowers.
Eugene leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Paula (Kevin) Rogerson of Medicine Hat, AB; his son, Gene (Shannon) Hauck of Oyen, AB; his grandchildren: Sheldon Rogerson (Tara Wells), Kirsten (Cole) MacKinnon, Hailey Hauck, and Garrett Hauck (Karly Willis); his great grandchild, Beckham; his companion, Elizabeth Klinger; his sisters, Anna-Marie Bailey and Angie Hoffman; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, brothers- and sisters-in-law and aunts and uncles.
Memorial tributes may be directed to Alberta Heart & Stroke Foundation, 340A Maple Ave SE Medicine Hat, AB T1A 7L5 or at heartandstroke.ca. A family burial for Eugene preceded the funeral service.
