Obituary of Sandy Jeanette Dancey
It is with a heavy heart; the family of Sandy Dancey announces her passing on April 13th,2026
Sandra Jeanette Dancey (née Hein) passed away peacefully in the Oyen hospital at the age of 77 after a courageous 11-month battle with cancer,
Sandy was born on March 22, 1949, in Hanna Alberta, to Mary and Walter Hein. She was the second oldest of six children and received her education in Lanfine, Cereal, and Oyen. She later married and had two children, Melanie and Troy.
In 2000, Sandy met and married Jack Van der mey. They soon moved to Acadia Valley, where they ran the restaurant in the Oyen Hotel, and later operated the restaurant in Acadia Valley. After retiring from the restaurant business, Sandy took a part-time position at the Acadia Valley Transfer Site. She truly looked forward to her days there and cherished the visits and conversations she shared with others.
Sandy dedicated much of her life to working as a cook in several restaurants in Hanna. She was known for her exceptional skill, strong work ethic, and the pride she took in everything she prepared. Her reputation spoke for itself—restaurant owners often sought her out, knowing she was among the very best.
Sandy, also fondly known as Frieda or Jenny, enjoyed a simple, quiet life. She was always up for a trip to Forestburg with Tobi, where her and the sisters would meet up and enjoy time together. Whether it be Christmas in July or a Hula party, Sandy was always a good sport.
Sandy will be forever missed by her husband Jack, sisters, Linda (Dan) Heckbert of Forestburg, Shelly Hein of Edmonton, dear friend Myrna, and of course her side kick Tobi.
Sandy was predeceased by her parents, Mary & Walter. sisters Cheryl and Pat and brother Garth.
No service will be held and if friends so desire, a donation can be made in her name to an animal rescue.
